Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is a unique program that offers children from kindergarten to twelfth grade the opportunity to take classes online at home.  The downside to this is that students are not able to earn a diploma or a General Education Diploma through FLVS. However, the classes that they do take transfer to any school in Florida. So, that way they are able to get a diploma or GED. FLVS is worth it for students that want to take extra classes to graduate faster, athletes, students that are away due to being a part of a military family, or students that require extra credits. FLVS also offers classes for children that are home schooled.

 

Florida Virtual School (FLVS) teachers are available to their students for twelve hours a day, 7 days a week.  Students can contact them via email, text and the online learning center. Textbooks do not need to be purchased because all learning material is available online. This makes sending to child to FLVS worth it. Textbooks can often cost hundreds of dollars.  The cost of the school is also free. Your Ph.D. can be put to much better use!  If you need a Ph.D. to become a 911 operator and it appeals to you, then by all means, go look for a doctoral program that will award you a Ph.D. in 911-ing.  Good luck on that one!  Does it specify what area of concentration your doctorate must be in to work as a 911 operator?  What if your Ph.D. is in psychology?  Of course, that could work, because many callers to 911 are distraught and could probably use some over the phone counseling.  Likewise, if it’s in the area of mathematics, the phone company involves numbers, right?  Or foreign languages and literature – this 911 job is ready made for you!  Think of all the callers to 911 who don’t speak English – you’ll be perfect for the job of a 911 operator with your Ph.D.  Perhaps they figure if you were smart enough to get your doctorate, you can figure out how to work the system without training.  Maybe the starting salary is so high they need to justify you’re needing a Ph.D. to become a 911 operator.  In that case, go for it.  Otherwise, look for work somewhere else.
